Statement from the Office of the Prime Minister: Dr. the Honourable Keith Rowley, Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, has written to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, conveying “most profound condolences to the Government and People of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the tragic occurrence near the Holy City of Mecca during the Hajj Pilgrimage on September 24, 2015, which claimed the lives of more than seven-hundred faithful pilgrims and injured over eight-hundred others.”
Prime Minister Rowley further communicated that the “Government and People of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, many of whom participate annually in this significant pilgrimage, join in mourning with you and the bereaved families during this deeply sorrowful time. We pray that the souls of the faithful will rest in peace eternal and that the injured will recover in the shortest possible time.”
The Prime Minister has to date received feedback that no Trinidad and Tobago national was among the causalities. He has instructed that communication be maintained with the relevant authorities overseas as well as with representatives of the pilgrim groups that have journeyed to Saudi Arabia to ensure that the most accurate and up-to-date information is available.
